FAQ

We hire a fun, loving, responsible staff of young men and women to work with our children. Each has significant experience working with children and participates in extensive training before the summer begins. Staff includes bunk counselors, specialists, unit heads, and directors. Our staff has a love for children and a commitment to our camp goals.

Depending on the age of the children, there is an average of 15-18 campers and four counselors per group. Each unit is composed of four or five groups, supervised by a unit head. There are also specialists and administrators that work with each group.

Learning to swim is one of the priorities of the camp experience. Our aquatics program focuses on the developmental needs of each child. Campers are encouraged by our Red Cross-certified water safety instructors and lifeguards to try new experiences in the water. At the Day Camp @ the JCC, 3-year-olds swim three times per week, and 4- to 5-year-olds swim at least four times per week. Each camp uses the Red Cross Learn to Swim assessment and ongoing curriculum.

Day Camp @ the JCC features a varied daily schedule including sports, ceramics, cooking, Jewish life, playground, nature, music, and more. Children ages 5 and up are also given the chance to choose an elective as part of their daily schedule, which encourages them to try something new and provides the opportunity to make new friends.

There is a tremendous ruach (spirit) in each of our JCC camps that generates warmth, care, and love. Our staff is a remarkable group of individuals—experienced, thoughtful, and responsible. We create a camp experience that fosters a true sense of community. Each child is treated as an individual and provided with a unique and enjoyable summer experience. The Day Camp @ the JCC offers children a chance to learn and grow, to try new activities, and to make new friends.

Friend requests can be made. Each child is able to make one request. We can guarantee one mutual request per camper.

We are continually in touch with the NYS Department of Health as well as the American Camp Association to keep on top of the most up-to-date guidelines for camps and children’s programs. We are committed to maintaining all of the recommendations and guidelines given to us, including those calling for consistent cleaning and sanitizing, smaller groups, as well as physical distancing and face coverings as needed. We will distribute a COVID-19 handbook to all families in advance of the summer with specific protocols, plans, and expectations.
